Welcome to the mediums page! Here you will find information on all of the mediums I use to create artwork! Each medium has its own traits that will affect its appearance.
Acrylic
About Acrylic Paint
Acrylic paint is a water-based, fast-drying medium that can be applied to absorbent surfaces (e.g., canvas, wood.)
Acrylic paint is an affordable non-toxic alternative to other paint mediums, such as oil. Acrylic paintings are created by layering values in thin strokes to build up color and detail.
All acrylic commissions that are permanent art will be sealed with a varnish to ensure protection for the artwork.
Since acrylic paint will not adhere well to non-porous surfaces, it is the medium I use for temporary glass/window paintings.
These paintings are not sealed and can be removed with warm, soapy water and scrubbing.
Gouache
About Gouache
Gouache is a water-based, semi-opaque paint that is able to act as a thicker (closer to acrylic) or thinner (closer to watercolor) medium based on the amount of water added to the solution. Gouache paint is best applied on thick paper or canvas.
Colored Pencil, Graphite, Charcoal
About Colored Pencils
Colored pencil drawings are the most time-intensive form of drawing that I offer. Colored pencil drawings are rendered by slowly building layers of color on a page to achieve detail. These drawings are done on thick paper.
About Charcoal
Charcoal is a medium made from natural, carbon-based materials. Charcoal drawings are made in a similar manner to graphite or colored pencil works, where the medium is pressed against a surface to transfer pigment.
Charcoal drawings will be in greyscale, either with white charcoal on black paper, or black charcoal on white paper. Charcoal smudges very easily, meaning that charcoal works need to be handled with care after completion to avoid any damage to the artwork.
About Graphite
Graphite is also a form of carbon, most commonly found in pencil form. Graphite drawings are the simplest and most affordable medium for hand-drawn art. Graphite drawings will appear in shades of grey. Similarly to charcoal, finished graphite drawings have an ability to smudge and must be handled with care.
Chalk
About Chalk
Chalk is a temporary medium that can last outdoors for upwards of several weeks, depending on weather conditions. Chalk art may lack the fine detail of other art, but can be located in a variety of places where traditional art can’t be displayed.
