My name is Audrey Petersen, and I am a local artist operating around the Des Moines metro. I am skilled in several mediums, including acrylic paintings, chalk art, graphite, charcoal, pastels, colored pencil, murals, and digital work.
I am from Altoona, Iowa, and I currently reside in Des Moines while I attend Drake University. I am majoring in Digital Media Production and Music, and I participate in several extracurriculars on campus when I’m out of class.
Beginnings
I have always loved creating art, and been passionate about honing my craft since I was ten years old. In school, I would doodle in the margins of my homework and frequently sneak a sketchbook under my desk during class.
My older sister is my biggest inspiration for art. I remember trying to copy all of her beautiful drawings when I was younger, hoping to be as talented as her one day.
Accolades
I began participating in art competitions during high school. I attend the annual Bondurant Blues and Brews Festival sidewalk chalk competition every summer, using any prize money I earn to fund my education and art business.
In 2022, I won the blue ribbon for the fine arts junior category at the Iowa State Fair for my painting of my late great-grandfather.
These successes have boosted my confidence in my capabilities and drive me to pursue higher goals each year with my art.
Behind the Brushes
When I’m at home in Altoona, I love to spend time with my pets—especially Piper (pictured to the left)—who is selective with his moments of tolerating me.
I love going to concerts in my free time. Since 2016, I have gone to 26 concerts and 2 music festivals. The image to the right is Greta Van Fleet (one of my favorite bands) from 2022.
I already have two more concerts scheduled in the near future and I look forward to many more!
My love of art extends to music as well. I attend Drake University on a vocal scholarship and have been classically trained for 6 years. At Drake, I have been involved in marching band, pep band, symphonic band, choir, and a small a cappella ensemble.
Alongside singing, I also play the saxophone, electric/upright bass, and ukulele.
In my free time, you can catch me hanging out with my friends, singing karaoke, watching my favorite movies, listening to music, or crafting. I especially love to knit and sew.
